Vacation

Took a small vacation during all the R2I madness. Went to Cancun for 10 days. Highly recommend it. I think it was a good break from all the intense planning and discussions. Now back to R2I. My wife's employer is taking care of relocation and we're waiting for movers to do a survey and come up with a plan. Also need to book air tickets!

First Post

This is a blog about my move from the SF bay area to Bangalore, India. Let me give you a little bit of context.

I'm an Indian citizen, born in Chennai and have lived in different parts of India for the first 21 years of my life. I finished by undergrad at BITS Pilani and moved to the US for my Ph.D. at The Ohio State University (go Bucks!). It took me a while and I finally graduated in 2008 and moved for my first ever job to the SF bay area with a startup called Greenplum. My girlfriend and I got married and she moved to the bay area from Seattle the following year. She works at Microsoft.

I've been wanting to move to India for a while. Primary reason of my wanting to move is that my parents are getting old and their health is not what it used to be. However, that is not the only reason. I've always felt that I belonged in India - I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it feels like the right expression :) More on that later.

My wife and I will be relocating from the bay area to Bangalore end of Dec 2011. I want to record my experience and opinions in this blog for the next few months. My wife has promised to chime in to give her perspective - which I suspect will be very different from mine. Enjoy!
